Live Experiments

Live experiments are situations where performance, participation, and systems unfold together in real time. They create temporary systems shaped by presence, attention, and response, allowing ideas to be tested in motion. Rather than presenting outcomes, the work stays open to uncertainty. Meaning emerges as people move from observing a system to becoming part of it.

VUMO – Volcanic R&D

The role also reflects and observes the nature of interdisciplinary collaborative practice between the diverse team including the local Nicaraguan community.

Born in Bradford VR

The Born in Bradford VR experience showcases the potential of data-driven storytelling using immersive technologies, machine learning, aesthetic devices and artistic imagination to engage new audiences with the multiple meanings hidden in large datasets.

Escaping Gravity

Escaping Gravity interrogates the tension between the pioneering optimism of airship construction in the 1920s and the consequences of hubris, as a reflection on our contemporary political and cultural landscape in a post-pandemic world. This is embodied in the wild ambition that went into the making of the R.101 airship and the tragedy that followed.

Touching Sleep

Touching Sleep creates shared encounters with personal sleep data, treating sleep as a lived, uneven condition rather than a neutral metric. The work brings bodies, care, and vulnerability into contact through collective experience. Instead of extracting insight, the project holds data relationally. Meaning emerges through attention and responsibility, as participants recognise sleep as something shaped by social, material, and emotional conditions.

Project Nimbus

Project Nimbus was a large-scale atmospheric intervention that released images into an uncontrollable system. Working in public airspace, the project tested how meaning forms around visible but unexplained phenomena. Rather than directing interpretation, Nimbus allowed response, speculation, and misreading to unfold in public. Meaning emerged beyond authorial control, shaped by uncertainty, scale, and collective projection.

Souls as Software Objects

Souls as Software Objects explored the future of humanity and technology and was the third live performative experiment presented by the Frozen Music Collective.

Frozen Music

The Sound of Coffee | Taylors Coffee

The Frozen Music Collective & Taylors of Harrogate created a live AV performance to explore the music our brain makes when we drink coffee. We used EEG technology to create a live visual score created directly from the drinkers brainwaves which was played live by musicians.
